PATRIOTS ROLL RAIDERS 49-0
In Northern Football Conference action last night, the Hamilton Steel City Patriots crushed the visiting Toronto Phantom Raiders 49-0.
The Patriots faced the undermanned Raiders on their new home field at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary in Hamilton’s east end, providing the fans with an exciting evening of local semi-pro football.
OFFENSIVE SPECIAL TEAMS
SCP got to work early, after a 75 yard opening kickoff return by Archelaus Jack, RB Stephon Smith punched into the Toronto end zone to go up 7-0.
Jack flashed his speed all night on special teams with punt returns of 35 (TD) and 40 yards. He also added a kick return TD of 95 yards to open the second half.
QBs Graham Kelly and Josh Madden found WR Gerrit Dendekker for touchdowns of 34, 43, and 23 yards, respectively. Both QBs combined for 5 of 9 passing, 152 yards 3TDs and 1 INT. Dendekker went on to lead all receivers with 3 catches for 100 yards and 3TDs.
ANOTHER SHUTOUT
Toronto couldn’t find any room against the vaunted Patriot defence, only gaining 39 yards on the ground all night. Raider runners were tackled for a loss five times, limiting their ability to move the ball.
It didn’t get much better through the air as the Raiders QB, James Maverick, went 6 of 13 for 49 yards 0 TD 0 INT.
Maverick was harassed all night by SCP defenders, being sacked 3 times (“Swish” Spring, Tristan Butler, Lavone Nelson) and hurried twice (Jesse Willick, Dustin Murray).
This is the third shutout this season for the SCP defense, only allowing 22 points in four games. The Patriots currently sit in first place of the NFC’s East Division at 3-1.
